The Home Classroom

Gutting the Home School Room

Renovating Freyja’s home school room began with completely gutting the space back to the bare floor, wall frames, and rafters. This blank canvas allowed us to design a functional and inspiring classroom environment. The demolition phase involved carefully removing all old materials, preserving the integrity of the structure.

Removing Old Materials

The initial task was to strip the room of its old lining boards, skirting boards, and architraves. This process required meticulous effort to ensure that the walls and floors were not damaged. With these elements removed, the room was prepared for the next stages of its transformation into an educational space.

Adding Structural Support

Once the old materials were removed, we added necessary timber to the wall corners and key areas to ensure a sturdy frame. This reinforcement was essential for supporting the new drywall and maintaining the room’s structural integrity. Proper bracing and support beams were installed to ensure long-term stability.

Rewiring for Lighting and Electrical Outlets

The electrical system was updated to cater to the new lighting needs of the classroom. We installed four LED downlights in the room, a two-LED light rail above the study area, and a ceiling fan for comfort. Additional power sockets were strategically placed around the room to accommodate modern electrical devices, ensuring functionality and convenience.

Installing Drywall and Decorative Elements

Next, we installed new drywall, carefully measuring and cutting each piece before securing it to the frame. Federation-style cornices, skirting boards, and architraves were added to give the room a classic yet professional look. Each element was meticulously measured and cut to fit perfectly, ensuring a seamless and polished finish.

Painting the Home School Room

The painting process brought the classroom to life. The walls were painted a light grey, while the architraves were given a darker grey hue for a subtle contrast. The skirting boards and doors received a gloss white finish, adding a touch of sophistication. The ceiling and cornice were painted white, enhancing the room’s brightness and providing a clean, cohesive look.

Final Touches and Completion

With the painting complete, the final touches were added. The LED downlights, ceiling fan, and light rail were installed and tested to ensure proper operation. The new power sockets were fitted, providing ample outlets for educational tools and devices. After a week of working in a semi-finished construction site, Freyja’s home school room was finally ready. The room now featured a blend of modern functionality and classic style, creating an inspiring and effective learning environment.
